One of the best things that happened to me in 2017 is the discovery of Sarah Blondin’s Live Awake series of podcasts. They have awakened me at a fundamental level, so much so that I have shared them with our already inspired teachers, my sisters, nieces and girlfriends, even John! Without fail, the response has been something like “I needed to hear this, it is such a profound and beautiful message”.

What I like about Sarah’s podcasts (apart from her soothing voice) is that each episode provides a different perspective to some of life’s most difficult and challenging times. Her basic message is that perspective is everything, and by choosing to see the beauty that exists in our everyday life, we begin to live a life where happiness is our natural state of being rather than a temporary occurrence.

Here is an excerpt from one of my favourite pieces:

Presence, this word: overused and rarely embodied. Yet paradoxically the home of what we are committing our lives to finding. Happiness is the highest desire of human beings, yet somehow seems to be the most illusive of pursuits. We have been looking in all the wrong places, we have been searching beyond, when really it waits here bellow our feet, in the soft sigh of our most beloved, in the pearl of dew on the morning grass, in the most simple of things that live vibrantly alive before and within.

Personally, the Live Awake Project has had a significant positive impact on me. It’s about living awake, not just going through the motions, and recognising that your life is full, complete, here and now! That there are no holes to be filled, no cracks to be plastered; everything you need is within you. The feeling of emptiness is a function of being disconnected with our intrinsic self.

As human beings we need quiet time to tune in with and find ourselves, and therefore contentment. I believe there’s no better time to reflect and reassess our path in life than in the new year. It is the time of natural closure – the end of one chapter and beginning of another (though there is no logical reason for this, as time in this context is arbitrary).

One of my aspirations for 2018 is to inspire people to live in the present, to live from within and to recognise the fullness of one’s own life. Even more, that our happiness is within our own hands and not dependent on anyone or anything else.

To help people in this quest, Inspire is excited to host a Live Awake Sound Healing and Motivational Retreat at the quiet desert landscape of Al Qudra on the afternoon of Saturday, January 27, 2018.

The experience will let you reconnect with yourself through the use of sound (Tibetan singing bowls, gongs and ocean drums), meditation and movement (a heart opening slow flow class) to help you set and achieve your goals for the year ahead. With a dedicated mat and wireless headset for each participant and the serenity of the sprawling desert, it is an ideal opportunity to disconnect in order to reconnect with your true self.

I really can’t wait to bring this special event (I call it an awakening) to Dubai’s yoga community.

Before closing, the entire Inspire team would like to thank you for your support in the year that has been and we wish you and your families every blessing for 2018.

See you on the mat,
